Room for Art: Inaugural Exhibition

Room for Art is pleased to present the work of two accomplished New York-based artists, Mark LaRiviere and Catherine Ramey. Their paintings and sculptures explore different themes and mediums, and share an emphasis on memory, form, and expression.
Mark LaRiviere is a sculptor and painter fascinated with the expressive possibilities of the human form. Through his drawings and figurative sculptures, LaRiviere captures the subtle expressions of our faces and gestures, and the movement and shapes that the body can create. Working from memory and observation, and utilizing the drawing and sculpting skills he has acquired over his lifetime, LaRiviere aims “to imbue my art with a timeless quality of the human form.”
Catherine Ramey is a painter whose work investigates natural forms and the environment, drawing heavily from her experiences in a rural setting in upstate New York. She describes her process of painting as a continuous evolution of form: ‘’Once the form begins, a stratum of layers evolves.” However, for Ramey, “the form is no more or less important than the feeling that surrounds it.” Ramey’s work, while grounded in depictions of nature, is also deeply inspired by memory, experience, and the expression of feeling and intention.
